Dog of The Day-1-1-2020

Bubbles the Miniature Poodle, the Dog of the Day
Name:Bubbles
Age:One year old
Gender:FemaleBreed:Miniature Poodle
Home: Piscataway, New Jersey, USA

Hi!  My name is Bubbles.  I'm special because I'm cuddly, fuzzy, and really sweet.  I'm friends with everyone and give them lots of kisses. I like to play attack with the vacuum cleaner and I have fun wrestling and running around with my puppy cousin, Ecko.

My favorite food is pizza, and I love to chew on "piggy ears." During the day my favorite place to hang out is on the couch where I can look out the window and watch everyone walk by.  The best thing is when my mommy takes me to the park so I can run around really fast without a leash.  Every night I sleep with my mommy in her bed under the covers.  It's like being inside a tent.

Hugs,

Angel

Dog of The Day-1-4-2020

Ben the Golden Retriever, the Dog of the Day
Name:Ben
Age:Three years old
Gender:MaleBreed:Golden Retriever
Home: St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Both Ben and his puppy brother Tanner are exceptional - each with special talents! Ben is a calm, more laid back dog but loves attention.  He's not so much the retriever as he is the lover.  He's also quite the guard dog and it's fun to watch Tanner try and mimic Ben's barking at strangers.

Ben knows his bed time and lets you know when HE is ready to go to bed.  He also loves to sing along with fire trucks as they pass by the house.

Ben and Tanner are the best things that have ever happened to my life. Having just Ben was great, and adding a "brother" for him made both our lives even more fun!

Bruno the Collie mix, the Dog of the Day
Name:Bruno
Age:Eleven years old
Gender:MaleBreed: Collie mix
Home: North London, England, United Kingdom

I would like you to meet Bruno, he will be 12 years in March 2020. He has lived with us in North London for nearly four years. We don't know what breed he is, but we think he looks a bit like a Collie cross.

He came into our lives when we needed him the most, having lost our beloved rescue dogs, Bonzo, a large Labrador/German Shepherd and a year later, our lovely Lurcher Maisy. We were heart broken. Two months later we received a call from an old acquaintance, an elderly lady, whom we had not seen for 30 years. She told us that she had been unwell for a long time and now had to go to hospital, but she was very anxious about what would happen to her beloved dog Bruno, who at the time was almost eight years old. She told us his story - she wanted a small puppy, easy to look after and one that didn't need a lot of walking, so unknowingly she went to a puppy farm in the countryside, where she found cages upon cages of puppies crammed into filthy spaces, and at the end of the row she saw a grown dog sitting in a cage by himself looking miserable. She felt very sad for the dog and inquired about him, she was told he was two and half years old - and had been born there. She just couldn't leave him, so she took him home. She knew she was not able to offer him long walks and playtime, but at least she could give him lots of love.

Life was difficult for both her and Bruno. He became very destructive, restless and anxious, but at the same time very loving. I realized the distress he was in when he was brought to us, there was peeing and pooping on the floor and on the sofa after a few minutes, and he literally bounched off the walls. He also jumped out of a first floor window, but luckily he landed in the garden and wasn't hurt. He did not eat or sleep for about three days. My husband ignored an advice not to let him off the leash, but having tasted freedom for the first time in eight years, his behaviour started to change.

With a lot of love and attention from us, he is now a calm and happy boy, except when there are fireworks and thunderstorms, and he is very friendly with visitors.

Bruno has a bit of arthritis, so we bought him a memory foam bed that is next to ours, but he prefers to sleep in bottom of our bed and cuddle up. :) A few years ago, we bought him a huge pool that he really enjoys during hot summers.

We feed him home cooked food, sweet potatoes with lots of different vegetables and meats, but he has developed an allergy to chicken, so that is off the menu now. He loves his treats - Denta sticks being his favourite.

Being almost 12, he has slowed down a bit, but on his daily AM and PM walks in the park and a nearby wood, he still loves to run around and fetch his squeaking ball, his favourite toy. We enjoy those walks as much as he does. He is very popular with girls of the canine kind and loves a good flirt - in fact, he has a girlfriend down the road who often visits. May it long last.

We love our boy so much! Seeing him happy means everything!

Dog of The Day-1-7-2020

Augustus the Irish Wolfhound, the Dog of the Day
Name:Augustus
Age:Eight weeks old
Gender:MaleBreed: Irish Wolfhound
Home: Tampa Bay, Florida, USA

My pet is Augustus Traolach and he is eight weeks old.  Augustus is an Irish Wolfhound from the Tampa Bay Area of west central Florida.

What makes Augustus special is, well, everything about him. Of course all puppies are so special, but to me Augustus is stands out as a real character. He loves everyone, getting great enjoyment out of meeting people. His tail goes so fast I worry he's going to lift off the ground.

The way he loves to kiss my nose, the way he barks so loudly at inanimate objects. His gentle way with children, his enjoyment of sitting by himself staring into the woods, the way learns so quickly, the way he runs like a little horse and the way he loves to dunk his head under water are some of the things that make him so special.  He is a character, independent and loving.  He has already filled my life with a great deal of love.
Hugs,

Angel

Dog of The Day-1-8-2020

Taco the Norwegian Elkhound mix, the Dog of the Day
Name:Taco
Age:Eight weeks old
Gender:MaleBreed: Irish Wolfhound
Home: Columbus, Ohio, USA

Hello! This is Taco! People expect to see a Chihuahua when they meet him but he is actually a six-year old Norwegian Elkhound mix. He's got a lot of Norwegian Elkhound in him (his loyalty and extra neck skin we call his "Elizabethan collar"), but he is much smaller and lacks the curly tail of the purebreds.

Taco lives with his two owners and two cat sisters in Columbus, Ohio. He likes to play with the cats but mostly loves to sneak on the couch for cuddles with us. He loves to sleep in on weekends and will do just about anything for a treat. Taco is often admired for his boisterous personality, general disregard for authority, and spectacular side-eye.

We adopted Taco when he was four years old from the local shelter. We were there for another dog but I couldn't help but notice his big brown eyes following my every step. We just had to meet him. His name was Toby but we had just lost a beloved black lab/coonhound mix named Toby and didn't think it was right to keep that name. On our way home we took him shopping at the pet store and as he wandered through the aisles we couldn't help but notice that his little trunk looked like an overstuffed burrito. And that's how we ended up on Taco! Also, fun fact, his birthday, October 4th, is National Taco Day. It was meant to be!

Taco brings so much joy, cuddles, and fur into our lives and we can't believe how lucky we are to have the privilege to call him ours.
