This is Sammie and he turned ten on his birthday in January. He is my dogs' best little buddie. He shakes his head a lot and really gets those ears a-swirlin'. Sammie is very playful but also timid. He learns tricks well, shake, sit, lie down, stay. His mother was a ten-year-old named Alina when she had him. He loves to hoard his toys and loves my Lily and Fergus who are also Cavalier King Charles spaniels. Sammie nearly jumps through the windows when Lily calls to him from our walks by his home. All three are Blenheim color type. Sam is from Wisconsin and mine are originally from a breeder in Iowa. They love to play, and seeing them romp together is just a joyful sight! Their fur is silky, not fluffy, so as you can see, they wear coats for warmth in wintertime. We all love Sammie!

   Hi! I'm Lucy, staving off the cold in winter fleece, a present from my human sister. One year and eight months ago I moved from Houston, Texas (warm, warm) to Upstate New York (cold, cold). I am an alpha dog who loves other animals except dogs. My passive temperament is masked by tremendous excitement meeting and wanting to play with new people. I am a great people dog. My master is usually perturbed when he calls me and I go to other people.  

     I love to endlessly chase my tail in circles, endlessly lick people's feet, shins, knees, or hands, and chase squirrels up trees and chipmunks into their burrows. Except for my hair, I like to keep a clean place. This means I spend a lot of time in the kitchen in strategic places waiting for food to inadvertently fall. You might call me a first responder for food accidents. Sounds like someone is cooking in the kitchen, duty calls.  Got to go. See ya!

   Tudi is a miracle puppy. She was born with a cleft palate, cleft lip, hydrocephalus, and a heart murmur. She was not expected to live at all, then it was said she wouldn't live past six weeks, and now we have no idea how long she'll live.  

     She is a fighter and doesn't let her conditions get her down! She loves to bark, ride in her stroller, and meet new people and animals. She is a medical miracle and continues to beat the odds every single day. 

     Tudi is a very sassy puppy! She always lets you know what is on her mind and she demands attention at all times. She does not know any tricks. Her favorite game is attacking your hands and climbing on her dog boss and her adopted dog siblings.

   Tyler found his way to ARI after surviving a hurricane.  He arrived traumatized and terrified of people.  The ARI caregivers saw the potential in Tyler, if only they could find a way to help him trust people again. 

     After four years at ARI, Tyler finally had his chance to shine through the Hope program.   This program focuses on each dog's special needs and utilizes the time and talents of the Camp Hill Prison inmates, under the direction of professional trainers, to train and rehabilitate homeless dogs.  Tyler learned obedience skills, cute tricks, and found the courage to give people a chance again.  Tyler steadily gained confidence in his new home and even became a celebrity after the local newspaper did a story on the HOPE program.  After Tyler's big brother passed away unexpectedly,  Tyler's family knew he needed a buddy to keep him on track with his new-found courage and socialization skills, so they searched for just the right friend, and that search led them to Calvin, who Tyler still looks to anytime there is a new situation or a stranger approaching them. 

     These handsome boys have a quiet and comfortable presence with each other and are loved and cherished by their parents.  Tyler gives Calvin moral support when they have to go outside in the rain.  (He survived bigger storms!)  Calvin checks out all the strangers first so that Tyler feels more comfortable greeting them.  They are well-behaved, funny, adorable, love to go on trips to the beach, take long walks, eat ice cream, and get belly scratches every day!

   This is a picture of George, at age seven weeks, though he is a bit older now.  He is very enthusiastic about life - he loves running, jumping, rolling around on his back and biting my feet.  His big sister is a large black cat and he enjoys chasing her around the house although she does not find this fun at all.  George has many store-bought toys, but his favorite is an empty plastic water bottle. 

     He is all enthusiasm and does sometimes get in trouble - chewing things he shouldn't most often, but we know he is just a baby, and with consistent correction, we know he will learn. It's just hard, because he is so darned cute! He has taken charge of the household in that way only a terrier can do. We love him.
