Today's Dog-5-19-2019
| Name: | Cobey
| Age: | Fourteen years old
| Gender: | Male | Breed: | Spitz, Poodle mix
| Home: | Cape Coral, Florida, USA | My pet is special because of his loyalty and devotion to our family and for the love he brings into my life and for the smile he brings to my face each and every day, and to the faces of those around him. The picture says it all...
Cobey's personality is close to that of a Chihuahua, he tends to cling to just his owner (me) and shy away from everyone else. He gets along great with children, although he tends to mistake his toys for theirs. He's extremely affectionate, and has been known to discontinue eating when he feels ignored or alone. His favorite games to play are frisbee, fetch, and hide-and-seek. He was a lot better at frisbee at a younger age back when they made a frisbee called "floppy disk" and it would be easier for him to grab on to with his mouth being that he's a relatively smaller dog (15lbs). He also enjoys raw carrots and always has, which I found interesting from the beginning. Hugs, Angel

Today's Dog-5-20-2019
| Name: | Bear
| Age: | Four and a half years old
| Gender: | Male | Breed: | Golden Retriever, Wolf mix
| Home: | Raytown, Missouri, USA | Bear is approximately four and a half years old. I found Bear running wild in Kansas City, he was about six months old at that time. He was pretty pathetic - flea ridden and some open sores from dog bites, and terribly skinny. But when I saw him, I recognized his intelligence and a noble soul despite outward appearance.
I had him checked at the vet, wounds treated, fleas taken care of, and took him home. I named him Bear because he had paws like a bear cob,, and it seemed to suit him as well. He is now a beautiful animal, as you can see. After much examination and as he grew, his veterinarian and I decided he is part Golden Retriever and part Wolf. His eyes glow at night like a deer, and turn white like a flashlight.
He is a wonderful and obedient animal. I don't own him, like most people consider their dogs. We are partners, and he is living with me as a dear friend as long as he wishes to do so. He is the best.

Today's Dog-5-21-2019
| Name: | Eddie
| Age: | Twelve years old
| Gender: | Male | Breed: | Parson Jack Russell Terrier mix
| Home: | Los Angeles, California, USA | Here is my Eddie. This picture was taken at the Sepulveda Dog Park - a great doggie place to visit! Lots of room to run and play, and maybe meet other dogs to be friends with - and it even has its own fire hydrant for "pee mail" use.
My Eddie is special because he is practically bursting with love. He is the most affectionate, loving dog I've ever known, with people and with other animals. Just pick him up, and he'll put his arms around you, snuggle up, and give you lots of kisses. Some people think terriers re all barky, mean little dogs, but he will prove them wring every time. He may be small in size, but his heart is huge! Sometimes he sleeps on his back with his little feet up in the air ... he's just sooo cute!

Today's Dog-5-22-2019
| Name: | Boone
| Age: | Three years old
| Gender: | Male | Breed: | Golden Retriever
| Home: | Houston, Texas, USA | Howdy there! My name is Boone! I am a three-year-old golden retriever. My mom says that I'm really bad but all I want is just some attention. Don't you think I deserve it?
I also don't know why I'm only fed dog food, that's why sometimes I have to jump on counters to get food and go dumpster diving. I'm sorry for making a mess, but I'm always so hungry. Always.
My absolute favorite thing to do is to go swimming in my pool outside, I swim for about three hours every day no matter the weather. (I live in Houston, so at least my pool doesn't freeze solid like I know happens to some dogs further North.) I also love chasing squirrels and lizards out front. If you want to see more pictures of me follow me on instagram @boones.world. Oh and, I almost forgot, I'm a Certified Emotional Support Animal!! It's an important job, and I am happy to have it.

Today's Dog-5-23-2019
| Name: | Duchess
| Age: | Five years old
| Gender: | Female | Breed: | American Pitbull Terrier
| Home: | Virginia, USA | I'd like to introduce to you a rescued American pitbull terrier named Duchess ...
Duchess came into my life over four years ago as a rescue through a local group called Augusta Dog Adoptions, with whom I'd been active for several years, bringing in scared and skinny dogs who would often quake when offered treats or a jump on the couch. Over time I'd come to prefer pitbulls to any other breed: they were often the most traumatized, the most neglected, the most incarcerated. And the most euthanized.
As a lifelong hunter, I'd grown up with an understanding mostly of retrievers, hounds and birddogs, but my first experiences w/ pitbulls - and I'd never even known a terrier of any kind - convinced me that this breed was unique in its devotion, territoriality, loyalty, love of all kinds of people, aggression toward other (unknown) dogs, and an absolute refusal to be obsequious to anyone at all. These dogs are the real deal. They love to cuddle, they love kids and company, but they are and will ever be their own breed. Pibbles never cower (except under the most violently criminal circumstances), and their devotion to those they specifically love, as is the case generally w/ all dogs but in my experience most especially w/ terriers, is deeply inspiring.
About five years ago I directed a short documentary about our local dog rescue (available here); pitbulls and hounds are the two types of dogs most often euthanized, in the latter's case because some people are widely ignorant of pitbulls and ascribe to them vicious traits which are almost always pure fiction. The only "vicious" pitbulls, as with all dogs, are those who have been traumatized and terrorized to the point where they desperately lash out at people purely from fear of further abuse.
The Duchess of Sears Hill is not only the Director of Security for our property; she's also an accomplished actress, having played the character of Crab in The Two Gentlemen of Verona at our American Shakespeare Center, appearing onstage five times so far to thunderous applause.
All of which makes one think of the enormous potential for life and love that neglected and abused dogs can offer us if we only can take them to heart, to give them a real chance at life, and to realize that while we're the origin of their problems, we can also be the solution.
