 Dog of the day-4-11-2020

Polly the Tibetan Terrier, the Dog of the Day
Name:Polly
Age:Five years old
Gender:FemaleBreed:Tibetan Terrier
Home: Northern California, USA

Polly is a Tibetan Terrier, she turned five years old in February.  Normal to her breed, she is a lady, somewhat aloof with strangers, quite independent even with her "family".  Although she understands commands very well, she needs a reason to comply, otherwise considers commands to be suggestions.

Polly has a remarkable coat, now kept clipped with only her muzzle and tail at full glorious length.  She is, as are all her breed, spectacular jumpers and she can jump up to my nose from a standing spot. She is rather spoiled, as are many Tibetans, because she can look so adorable, so cute, and can be irresistible when begging for food.  My wife finds it impossible to discipline her, so naturally Polly rules the roost - but she's so cute.  Though only twenty-one pounds, she is a sturdy, strong dog.  When she puts on 'four-paw brakes' we can't move her!

Hugs,

Angel

 Dog of the day-4-17-2020

Meghan the Irish Terrier, the Dog of the Day
Name:Meghan
Age:EIght months old
Gender:FemaleBreed:Irish Terrier
Home: Southern California, USA

Meghan Irish Myst is her full name, but we call her Meghan for everyday use. This breed is incredible. There are so many reasons. Meghan has a wonderful disposition but is fearless to the point of daredevil. She is well socialized to dogs and people, and devoutly protects the family "pack" against those unneutered male stray cats. She has taken it upon herself to walk the perimeter and guard the backyard from those insidious fowl that fly in, and need close watching (or so she thinks).

She refuses to allow herself be dominated by other dogs, but lovs to play and play. She is always curious, a thinking person's dog. She loves to be clicker trained. Her list of things she does for treats grows and grows. She is currently off-leash and preparing for Agility. We love this very intelligent red 25lb bundle of love (which really has the heart the size of an Airedale!)

Hugs,

Angel

Primrose the Great Pyrenees, the Dog of the Day
Name:Primrose
Age:Deceased, one year old
Gender:FemaleBreed:Great Pyrenees
Home: Illinois, USA

It has been over two years since I said goodbye to my beautiful girl Primrose. Hardly a day goes by when I don't think of her. I thought it'd be nice to write this as a little tribute to her. I got Primrose on my 16 birthday. (Forget owning a car, I definitely preferred having a puppy!) She was about 3 months old and came from a large litter. The first day I got her I took tons of pictures. I couldn't believe how cute she was, or that I actually had my own dog! My family owns an older Rottweiler, Sadie, who wasn't too sure about having a sibling, especially one so energetic and annoying! Our barn cat Beatrice  decided she wasn't a fan of the new pup from the beginning. Upon the first meeting she almost scratched Prim in the nose! Luckily Sadie started to warm up to Prim and the two enjoyed playing together out in the yard and would even cuddle on a rare occasion. I can't say Sadie was a fan of having her ears licked though!

Prim loved being outside, especially in the cooler weather. Some days we would literally spend an hour trying to coax her to come in! She was full of energy almost all the time! Luckily we had a big enough yard for her to burn most of it off. She never quite mastered come, purely because she didn't want us to bring her back inside! She adored snow and would spend her whole day romping and playing in it if she could. (Maybe other GP owners can relate to this, lol) Prim was never the easiest dog to take out for a walk, as she got big and strong quickly and liked to chase cars! (We never let her do that of course) When we did go out on walks, she enjoyed playing in the creek behind my house, especially on hot days to help cool off. Taking long walks with Prim always made a rough day better.

Prim loved everyone she met, and everyone loved her. She would always try to get you to engage in a game of chase or tug of war. When her energy was lower, you could expect her to plop down in your lap and try to cuddle.  Digging was another past time that she enjoyed, although my parents definitely weren't fans of that one. We stopped giving her bones cause they would always go missing. We soon realized why!

February 29th, now over two years ago, was the last day I saw my Primrose. I was getting ready to take her for a walk and of course she was very excited about this. As I was walking up to clip her leash on, she started having a seizure and fell to the ground. As I watched it happen I quickly came to the horrifying realization that she was dying, and there would be nothing anyone could do to save her. Within about a 2 minute time span, she was gone. To this day, we are unsure what happened. The vets believed that she could have been born with a weak heart and that her heart could have stopped. She had always seemed so healthy and strong, I was devastated. Having Sadie has helped me to move on, but rarely does a day go by without me thinking of my Prim. Above the window in my room I have a row of photographs of her as a reminder of what a wonderful dog she was. I am grateful I got to the opportunity to be her person, even if it was just for a short while.

     In loving memory of Primose

 Dog of the day-4-22-2020

Black the Doberman Pinscher, the Dog of the Day
Name:Black
Age:Six months old
Gender:MaleBreed:Doberman Pinscher
Home: Jubail, Saudi Arabia

My dog Black is so special because he is smart, and learns commands and tricks right away. He is so friendly, and always love to play with any kids he meets. Black eats a lot. He is big, but just half a year old, so is still a growing puppy and needs his food - he will let you know whenever his bowl is empty - which is all the time, it seems!

Some people are afraid of him, just because of his breed, but that is just wrong. He has a very big bark, and he knows it is his job to protectt his family, but he is also the sweetest, nicest dog once he knows you are a friend.

Hugs,

 Angel
