Raleigh the Cocker Spaniel, the Dog of the Day
Name:Raleigh
Age:Fourteen years old
Gender:MaleBreed: Cocker Spaniel
Home: Washington, Pennsylvania, USA

Raleigh is a black and white parti-color Cocker Spaniel. He is now fourteen years old.  His puppy face and "Ball Boy" nickname  are two things that make him special. He and his dad, David, have saved each other.  Raleigh was rescued at one year old by David from an emaciated condition. He then flagged David"s heart disease years later when early morning walks were taken. David's pain was only on those walks.  Raleigh is an even tempered beautiful boy, and we love him very much!

Raleigh is our third cocker spaniel. David and I each had a black one growing up. David was notified by a friend that an emanicated cocker had come to the local shelter near David's work site. He contacted the shelter and began visiting Raleigh at lunch as often as possible, and made sure he got a midday walk. When Raleigh became strong enough we took him home.

Personality wise Raleigh has always been mild mannered and very compliant. He makes excellent eye contact and wants to be where we are. Although his sight and hearing are compromised, he still follows the family routine well.

Rusty the Lhasa Apso/Maltese mix, the Dog of the Day
Name:Rusty
Age:Six years old
Gender:MaleBreed: Lhasa Apso/Maltese mix
Home: Bloomington, Minnesota, USA

Rusty is special to us for many reasons, but mostly that he came to us at a time when we had just lost our first dog, Sami (a Westie), at five and a half years old.  We were not able to have children, so Sami was totally our baby.  We were devastated and were having a hard time moving on.  I went to dinner with friends and just couldn't stop crying about losing Sami.  The next day, one of the friends that I was at dinner with, called me and said that one of her co-workers had asked her that morning if she knew of anyone that wanted a dog – a six-month old Lhatese that was potty trained.  Since we had just lost our dog three weeks prior, I wasn't sure that we were ready for another one so soon, but agreed to go meet with him.  We were in and out the door in 15 minutes, taking Rusty with us.

Rusty helped us recover from our grief, but I believe we also helped Rusty.  We don't believe he was abused, but he was definitely ignored.  He had never been on a walk and did not know how to navigate the stairs.  He was very standoffish and not a cuddler at all.  Well, that has changed!!!  He loves it if he can be in a position where he can be touching both of us at the same time.  He is stubborn as all get out, but wouldn't have it any other way.

Rusty is totally our little boy and I just couldn't imagine our life without him.

Bumble Bee the Pug, the Dog of the Day
Name:Bumble Bee
Age:Ten years old
Gender:FemaleBreed: Pug
Home: New York, New York, USA

Bumblee Bee came as a gift to me as a really tiny tiny pup (around four lbs.) but with energy the size of a mastiff.  Even as a pup, she knew what she wanted and still stops at nothing to get what she wants (that includes all slippers in the house...).

As of now, her hobbies include eating, playing, taking her daily walks, receiving belly rubs, and giving puppy kisses.  As for her  education, as a puppy she mastered how to sit, stay, and shake hands with us all by seven months.

Bumble Bee has always thought she is a human and not a dog that's why she prefers mingling with every person that comes into sight during her walks at the Central Park.  She likes all adults and children alike, especially those who call her, "the cutest dog ever." She still has a long journey ahead and I'm really thankful to have this little bundle of joy in my life!

Marty the Beagle/Dachshund mix, the Dog of the Day
Name:Marty
Age:Four months old
Gender:MaleBreed: Beagle/Dachshund mix
Home: Scottsville, Kentucky, USA

My family rescues and fosters animals regularly. So, naturally, when my mother saw this baby, she picked him up. Marty was rescued from a parking lot near our home and we immediately began looking for his owners. No luck - well, no one claimed him anyway. Hard to believe anyone could not want this cutie. He instantly became the "family" dog; since each of us has our own individual dogs, no one could solely claim him.

Because Marty is part dachshund he has teeny little legs which makes it difficult for him to jump onto anything, and enormous Beagle ears with which he can hear everything. Additionally, he comes with a giant bark and howl, just a couple of the fantastic characteristics of a Beagle. He is, however, as sweet as he is cute. His favorite thing to do is curl up, on the sofa, under "his" blanket when we watch movies. Marty is also very smart. He understands commands and know exactly where the rawhide strips are kept. If you are visiting, he will helpfully point them out to you!

Love & Hugs,

Angel
